Information for Referring Physicians

Procedure

If you have a patient who is a potential candidate for our program, please call us to discuss the situation.

The normal procedure is to have the patient come in for a medical screening and assessment and a report is sent to the referring physician. If because of distance or other reasons it is not practical for the patient to come just for an assessment, other options can be arranged. Usually this involves a telephone consult with the physician and with the patient. If the patient appears to be a suitable candidate and would like to proceed, then they are scheduled for the program and asked to arrive a day early for screening and assessment. Where patients are wanting additional information we can usually arrange for them to talk with someone who is familiar with the program.

Post Program Reports

Post program reports are available approximately ten days after the patient completes the program.

Fees

The cost of the program is not covered by Provincial Medical Plans. Depending on the circumstances it may be covered by auto insurance, WCB, or LTD. On occasion we have had coverage provided by DND, DVA, Health and Welfare, unions, and employers. Where no third party coverage is available and the patient must pay privately, we can sometimes arrange a payment plan. We can also make special arrangement where patients have an insurance settlement pending. (Note: the initial medical screening is covered by Provincial Medical with a physician's referral to our Medical Director, Dr. Greenwood).

Drug Prescription Policy

Except in emergency conditions, we do not prescribe or provide medication. Patients need to bring with them an adequate supply to cover the day period. We do work closely with patients to help them reduce medication when appropriate. Our normal policy is to have clients keep and self administer their medication. If you are considering referring a patient for whom it is not suitable to have them keep and administer their own medication, please notify us when making the referral.

Other Concerns

If you have questions or would like additional information , please contact us. If you plan to be in the Victoria area and would like to visit the facility please let us know and we would be happy to arrange it.

Our waiting list is normally two to four months. Where it is important to get a patient in as soon as possible, we can place them on our waiting list pending a cancellation.

Testimonials

The program's strongest features are the multidisciplinary approach and looking at chronic pain through a different paradigm. Also that most staff have also experienced chronic pain at some level themselves and are very open about their journey.
